1977: A 50-year-old steamroller was being brought back to life. A relic from the county council highway depot at Gailey, the roller was pensioned off after 43 years' service. It was given to the museum at Shugborough, near Stafford, and given a makeover. Museum officer Frank Beasley admires the work.

1966: Shops in Bilston were getting ready for a makeover. A narrow footpath was having guard rails installed alongside it to prevent pedestrians straying into the road, and the shops would soon be refitted.

1954: In September, 16 of these larger-than-usual trolley buses were ordered by Walsall Corporation from Sunbeam Trolleybus Co Ltd in Wolverhampton. A new hi-tech system meant that the rear doors had to be closed before the bus could move.

1990: A campaign was launched in September to try to save one of Walsall's oldest buildings from ruin. The former White Hart pub in Caldmore Green, which dated back to the 17th century, had been empty for several years. Councillors Meg Robinson and Muhammad Nazir formed a committee in the hope of restoring the building.
