About 900 Wolverhampton people spent a brighter Saturday night last weekend than any since the war started.
To the strains of a local dance band they danced in the civic hall, where the bright interiror lighting was in cheerful contrast to the outside gloom.
The event was the first of a new series of Saturday night dances promoted by the civic hall committee to enliven te weekend leisure of Wolverhampton's young people, very many of whom are enganged through the week on work of national importance.
But since the majority of the dancers had to bow to the transport committee's curfew of a 10pm last bus, perhaps it would be more accurate to call the function a Saturday evening dance.
But next week the time is to be extended to 11pm so unless the transport committee agrees to cooperate by then, that last hour will be enjoyed mainly by motor owners, plus a few hardy souls who are prepared to round off their night's exercise by walking home.
