Rider crisis strikes at Monmore

Originally published: August 9, 1984

Worried Wolves face massive problems as they prepare for their busiest weekend of the speedway season.

They take on Sheffield in their rearranged KO Cup quarter-final at Monmore Green tomorrow, travel to Halifax for a British League match on Saturday, and then return to Monmore on Sunday afternoon for a League clash with Reading.

With Dennis Sigalos ruled out of the action for the rest of the season with his broken ankle, the situation has been complicated for the promoter Peter Adams by the recall of Flemming Pedersen by his parent club for an important Danis League match on Saturday, and on Sunday Pedersen will be joined in Denmark by Preben Eriksen and Peter Ravn for the national championships.

Adams was hoping to use Ipswich rider John Cook as guest either at Halifax or against Reading, but has been told Cook is ruled out because he guested for Wolves against Sheffield on Monday.

Adams again calls on neighbouring Cradley to help out tomorrow, and will use Ekik Gundersen as replacement for Sigalos.

At Halifax Sheffield's Shawn Moran steps in and David Cheshire is recalled to deputise for Pedersen, but the Wolves promoter is still undecided about his line-up for Sunday.
