Status Quo maintain status quo...

Originally published: December 18, 1997

Boogie veterans Status Quo have changed little in three decades of rocking all over the world.

But that's the way their fans like them - and it's whatever they want that counts.

After a set from former Free and Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers, the headliners took the stage at the NEC tothe strains of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.

Fans were soon on their feet waving the inflatable guitars they had brought with them but the legendary Quo dance was conspicuousby its absence.

The sheer number of hits Quo have had means they have to play them in medlys to get through them all.

Some people object to this but at least it means thatnearly everyone hears a bit of their favourite number.

The final medly featured rock 'n' roll classics from artistssuch as Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry asthe band paid tribute to their influences.

Quo genuinely looked as if they had a good time: their fans certainly did.

* Status Quo are at the NEC again tonight.
