Walsall sets up war aid fund

Originally published: Friday, October 13, 1939

Walsall has decided to set up a local war-aid fund, the purpose of which is to assist local organisations engaged in war work.

First charge on it will be for the Red Cross and the Order of St John.

This decision was reached at a representative meeting held last night on the motion of Councillor J Cliff Tibbits, mayor-designate, seconded by Dr E F Drabble, deputy mayor.

It was stated that the setting up of the fund is to avoid a multiplicity of local appeals.
