Black-out offenders at court

Originally published: September 6, 1939

When 24 cases of showing lights during the hours of darkness came before the stipendiary at Birmingham today, the prosecution said he was going to ask for offenders to be committed for trial.

Fines today were either 30s or £2.

One man fined £2 pleaded that he had been under the impression that it was only necessary to black-out the front of the house, and not the back as well.

One offender was a motorist who was alleged to have had two bright side-lights. He also had to pay £2.
